Team Leader – Te Whare Whakawātea
Fixed Term (12 months) | Full Time | Tūranganui-a-Kiwa (Gisborne)
Te Whare Whakawātea is a 24/7 kaupapa Māori-informed step up/step down facility, supporting whānau through their recovery journey in a safe, trauma-informed environment. We are looking for a practical, people-focused Team Leader to take charge of daily operations, guide frontline staff, and ensure whaiora and whānau receive the highest level of care.
The salary is $80,000 – $95,000 per year depending on experience.
About the Role
Reporting to the Site Manager, this role is about being on the ground, setting the tone for the team, and making sure things run smoothly around the clock. You’ll coordinate rosters, support staff, and oversee the daily delivery of care within the whare. By working closely with community providers and Te Whatu Ora, you’ll help shape care plans that support whaiora and whānau on their path to recovery.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will:
- Supervise, coach, and support support-workers to deliver safe, consistent care.
- Manage rosters and scheduling to keep the whare running 24/7.
- Ensure staff are trained, confident, and supported in trauma-informed and kaupapa Māori practices.
- Work alongside community providers to implement care plans tailored to whaiora and whānau.
- Build positive relationships across whānau, iwi, and local services to strengthen support networks.
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys leading from the front. You’ll bring:
- Experience leading or supervising teams in social services, health, or a care environment.
- Strong people skills — able to motivate, guide, and support others.
- Understanding of addiction recovery, trauma-informed care, and whānau support.
- Confidence with rostering and managing day-to-day operations.
- Commitment to kaupapa Māori values and whānau-centred practice.
Why Join Us?
This is a chance to be part of something meaningful — a kaupapa making real change for whānau in Tairāwhiti. As Team Leader, your leadership on the ground will directly shape safe spaces, trusted relationships, and positive outcomes for whaiora and their whānau.
