About the Role | Mō te tūnga
Te Kaiako Māori is responsible for the delivery of high-quality, culturally responsive teaching and learning programmes aligned with Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Working with ākonga who are enrolled in Māori-medium settings, including Kura Kaupapa Māori, Wharekura, Kura-ā-Iwi, and rūmaki classes in mainstream schools, you will co-construct Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), assess progress, and support ākonga who are unwell to transition back to their kura rēhita.
This is a permanent, part-time (0.6FTTE) Scale A teaching position that will also attract an annual full-time allowance of $6000 to $12000 pro rata to hours worked, depending on experience teaching in Te reo Maori. Permanent teachers at our school are also eligible for 1 health school management unit.
You will collaborate with whānau, kura rēhita, kaiārahi, and kaiako from Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu to ensure that each ākonga receives holistic and personalised support in their learning journey.
While our preference is that this role be based in the mid-North or Tauranga, other locations would be considered within our school’s geographic coverage area.
A full clean New Zealand driver license is required as some travel will be a requirement of this role.
Key Responsibilities | Ngā kawenata matua
- Design and deliver teaching programmes grounded in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa
- Support holistic development of ākonga, including wellbeing and whānau aspirations
- Develop and maintain ILPs in collaboration with ākonga, whānau, and kura rēhita
- Use appropriate aromatawai to assess progress and guide learning pathways
- Co-construct personalised transition pathways for ākonga
- Engage ākonga in regular teaching interactions (online and/or kanohi ki te kanohi)
- Build and sustain effective relationships with local kura
- Comfortable teaching across all year levels.
About You | Mōu ake
We are looking for someone who is:
- Fluent in te reo Māori with deep knowledge of mātauranga Māori
- Experienced in teaching within Māori-medium education settings
- Familiar with Te Marautanga o Aotearoa
- Skilled in relationship building and collaboration with ākonga, whānau, and kura
- Committed to the aspirations of whānau, hapū, and iwi in education
- Organised, responsive, and dedicated to ākonga success
About Us | Mō Te Kura
Te Kura Āwhina Ora o te Raki (Northern Health School) is a Ministry of Education-funded school that provides education and transition support for Year 0–14 students whose health conditions prevent them from attending their regular schools. We are a large, geographically dispersed school with sites across the North Island, from Gisborne and Taranaki to the far north (Kaitaia).
