Research & Communication Analyst, 6-months Fixed-term, full-time basis

Te Rau Ora

  • Full Time Fixed Term
  • Otago
  • Step into an established role and make impact fast
  • Blend research, storytelling and campaigns that reach whānau
  • Work in a kaupapa Māori, tikanga-grounded environment

About the role

Te Rau Ora is seeking a Research & Communication Analyst to provide a 6-month maternity leave cover, with some flexibility on the end date.

This is a chance to step into a well-established role within Whare Tukutuku, where research, communications and storytelling come together to support kaupapa Māori across Aotearoa.

The work is hands-on and fast-paced. The successful candidate will move between planning, writing, creating and analysing—often within the same week.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Turning research and kaupapa into clear, engaging content
  • Delivering campaigns across digital, social, media and print
  • Managing web and social channels and tracking performance
  • Supporting projects and adapting as priorities shift
  • Building strong relationships across teams and with sector partners

An early start is preferred, with an expectation that the successful candidate can get up to speed quickly.

The ideal candidate:

This role will suit someone who can step in confidently and contribute from day one.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in communications, marketing or a similar field, with the ability to work across content development, channels, and analytics. Strong writing skills and the ability to translate complex information into accessible messaging are essential.

Experience or exposure to the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector will be highly valued.

A strong level of cultural capability is important. The successful candidate will have an understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and be comfortable engaging with Māori stakeholders. Te reo Māori is an advantage, or a willingness to build capability in this space.

They will also be adaptable, organised, and comfortable working in a busy, evolving environment.

Why this role stands out

This is more than a short-term contract-it's an opportunity to contribute to kaupapa that supports Māori health and wellbeing.

Te Rau Ora offers a values-led, culturally grounded environment, where work is guided by manaakitanga, wairuatanga and collective impact. The role provides scope to add value quickly while building both professional and cultural capability.
