Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua, the TEC - is a small Crown agency with a big job to do - ensuring New Zealanders have the skills and the knowledge they need to build a great life, and ensure New Zealand thrives. We invest over $3 billion annually across the tertiary education and careers systems.
This role is part of our high-performing Business Analysis team in our Information Directorate, the engine room delivering the ICT infrastructure, data products, and tools that power TEC's ability to invest in education and champion learning.
As part of our Business Analysis whānau, you will collaborate across teams to co-design and deliver impactful solutions, continuously improve our systems and products, and help shape smarter decision-making across TEC.
This role is suited to a professional with a proven ability to quickly get up to speed on new pieces of work, scope work effectively, lead discovery with confidence, and support delivery across business, technical, and data-rich environments.
This is a fixed-term role for 12-months from 1 July 2026.
He angitūtanga: About the Role
This requires strong analysis, facilitation, and delivery-shaping skills. You'll be expected to quickly understand new work, bring structure to ambiguity, confidently run workshops, and help teams move from discovery into delivery with clear, actionable outputs.
This role has a strong customer focus and works closely with our customers and product delivery teams. The key responsibilities of the role are to:
- Quickly understand new business problems, contexts, and delivery needs
- Scope new pieces of work and help define clear problem statements, outcomes, and priorities
- Lead workshops with business and technical stakeholders to gather information, test assumptions, and build shared understanding
- Elicit, analyse, and document requirements, process impacts, and delivery considerations
- Translate complex or ambiguous information into clear user stories, requirements, and recommendations
- Work effectively in a data-rich environment and act as a bridge between business stakeholders, product delivery, and data teams

This role is ideal for an experienced Business Analyst who is confident stepping into new areas of work, building understanding quickly, and helping teams move from ambiguity to clarity. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of analysis, facilitation, business acumen, and confidence working across business, technical, and data-focused contexts.
We are specifically looking for candidates whose skills and experience match the following criteria:
- At least 4-5 years of experience as a Business Analyst*
- Proven ability to quickly get up to speed on unfamiliar work and scope new pieces of work effectively
- Confidence facilitating workshops that bring business and technical stakeholders together to define scope and agree requirements
- Strong requirements elicitation, analysis, modelling, and documentation skills, including user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog refinement
- Experience working effectively in a data-rich environments and using information to support analysis and decision-making
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate between business and technical audiences
*Please note: This Senior BA role is not suitable for entry-level applicants without prior direct experience in business analysis.

The salary range for this position starts from $104,653 up to $123,121 plus 3.5% KiwiSaver depending on demonstrable skills and experience.
