Job description

Nelson Provincial Museum is seeking an energetic and outgoing Visitor Host to join our team. 

Our Visitor Hosts are the main point of contact with our visitors. Your role is to engage with visitors, offering information, and enhancing their experience. You will actively work in the Museum Shop, sharing with customers our unique range of products, as well as assisting with a wide range of duties.

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Outstanding people and communication skills.
  • Enjoys working with people of all ages.
  • Problem-solving on the spot.
  • A ‘going the extra mile’ customer service focus and approach.
  • Retail experience.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications and POS system.
  • Interest in museum and cultural history.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Team spirit
  • Understanding of the role of a museum in a community.
  • An appreciation of tikanga Māori.
  • Understanding and appreciation of cultural differences, and ability to communicate well across cultures.
  • Some fluency in te reo Māori would be welcome.

Please note: as this position will work with children, the successful candidate might need to undergo a full Safety Check (including police check).

This is a part-time permanent role, two days a week (Sunday, Monday) with further hours available to cover illness and leave.
