Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō - Working together for Wellington's future

We're looking for a Senior Advisor Commercial Procurement to join our Commercial Partnerships team. This is your opportunity to bring your commercial expertise to the public sector and help deliver high-value outcomes that directly benefit our community.

Āu ake mahi - What you'll do

You'll be responsible for the following:

  • Providing procurement and contract management advice and customer service across the wide range of business groups at Council
  • Planning and executing end-to-end procurement processes
  • Supporting the development and implementation of procurement and contract management strategy, policy, and operational procedures
  • Supporting the business in implementing high quality contract management from commencement through to expiry (contract management plans)
  • Driving Council's goals and strategic plans related to cultural, environmental, social and economic wellbeing, collectively referred to as 'Broader Outcomes'

Ngā tohu me ngā wheako - Qualifications and experience

You'll have at least five years of experience in commercial procurement, with a strong track record of delivering complex and/or high-value projects. Ideally, you'll bring experience in medium-value construction and ICT procurement sectors, along with a solid understanding of risk, legal, and financial considerations surrounding procurement and contracts, market and solutions development, strategic sourcing, ethical sourcing, and outcome-based contract negotiations and management.

You'll be confident working with data, applying both qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques to inform decision-making. Your ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships will be matched by excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - and a talent for influencing and negotiating at all levels.

You'll ideally hold a CIPS Level 5 or 6 qualification, or an equivalent qualification in law or business. However, experience in central or local government procurement is highly desirable, as is a demonstrated ability to deliver results.

In return, you'll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team, work on meaningful projects that directly benefit the community, and enjoy flexible working arrangements and a supportive culture that values your growth and development.

Nōu te rourou - What's in it for you

Working for the Council offers you a range of benefits including 5 weeks annual leave, flexible working options, health and wellbeing support, Council staff discounts and a range of learning and development programmes and opportunities.
