Duty Manager - Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre - Kilbirnie

Wellington City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Duty Manager to join our team at WRAC: Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre (WRAC) in Kilbirnie. Our facility offers a unique environment and community, and we are looking for a leader who can adapt and thrive in this diverse settings.

About the role

Working closely with the Operations Manager, the Duty Manager will:

  • Ensure procedures and schedules for facility maintenance and presentation are carried out
  • Build and enhance the capability of your team
  • Display visible leadership in health and safety systems and practices
  • Provide and maintain a high standard of pool lifeguarding through regular training
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Undertake administrative tasks including time sheeting and reporting
  • Ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of our services and pools

Our pool:

  • WRAC (Kilbirnie)is a large, multi-purpose aquatic centre that includes 50m indoor pool, diving pool, toddlers’ pool and spray water-play area, programmes pool, hydrotherapy pool, gym, spas and saunas as well as hosting high-performance training, regional swim meets, national and international events and a wide range of community programmes

We are looking at a starting salary rate of $78,224 per annum, for the Duty Manager role.

About you

A strong passion for aquatics and a commitment to improving water safety through knowledge-sharing with customers and colleagues is essential. A focus on continuous improvement is highly valued, with a desire to contribute to enhancing an already excellent facility and workplace. 

Reliable transport to enable you to support roster and shift changes as required.

Required qualifications and experience include the following:

  • Hold a current NZ lifeguard qualification (PLPC), with First Aid Level 2 or higher
  • Previous experience as a Duty Manager or Team Leader in an aquatic facility
  • Effective communication, leadership and interpersonal skills to build strong working relationships
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety requirements within the aquatics industry
  • A high level of customer service commitment, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors
  • Available to work flexible hours, including weekends, on a rotating roster across 7 days (with shifts ranging from 5:30am to 10:00pm)
