The New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) is one of Aotearoa’s most respected performing arts institutions. We are seeking a Development Manager to lead fundraising and donor engagement initiatives that support the school’s long‑term growth and ongoing artistic excellence.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director, you will drive the implementation of NZSD’s Fundraising and Development Strategy. This is a hands‑on role where you will cultivate donor relationships, secure funding through grants and sponsorships, and deliver high‑quality events that connect supporters with the school’s work.
You will collaborate closely with the marketing team, artistic teams, industry partners, and the wider arts community. Your ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery will be key to strengthening the school’s supporter network and growing sustainable revenue streams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver donor cultivation and stewardship strategies
- Manage individual giving programmes, including scholarships and bequests
- Lead fundraising appeals and produce compelling donor communications
- Prepare and submit grant applications
- Maintain relationships with NZSD Foundation Patrons and coordinate Foundation events
- Develop sponsorship proposals and manage partner relationships
- Host donor, funder and sponsor events, including front‑of‑house representation
- Maintain accurate donor records and report on financial targets
- Produce fundraising collateral for digital and print channels
What You Will Bring
- Minimum two years’ experience in fundraising or development
- Experience building and nurturing relationships with individual donors, trusts, foundations and corporate partners
- Experience preparing funding applications and managing grant reporting requirements Demonstrated success contributing to fundraising strategies and achieving revenue targets
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience coordinating fundraising campaigns and/or events
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency using CRMs to track contacts, income and reporting
- An understanding of social media platforms to drive engagement with fundraising activity
- A proactive, collaborative approach and the ability to bring fresh ideas
