The Marae holds a unique significance as a cultural and historic hub for six of the eight iwi in Te Tauihu o te Waka a Maui, connected through their common tupuna Kaakati.
Delivering a range of social services, and kaupapa Māori based activities to the community for over 20 years. Our cultural values lead the day-to-day interactions with whānau, hapū and iwi as does our commitment to fostering a proactive approach to self-determination and wellbeing.
We have created an exciting opportunity through the amalgamation of two part-time fixed term contracts. A total of 30 hours per week with the 10 hours per week contract ending 10 July 2026 and the other 20 hours per week contract ending 31 December 2027.
Mō te tūranga mahi – About the role
Named the Kaiwhakatere Hāpori me Te Ākonga translates to Community and Education Administration Navigator. 10 hours per week is allocated to support whānau in community activities, alternating between Kaumatua Roopu and Tuku Iho. Coordinating and leading weekly community programmes, relevant to each audience.
The Kaumatua Roopu is focused on re-connecting koroua and kuia, to te Ao Māori, the Marae and fostering social engagement.
Tuku Iho a much broader set of programmes supporting hauora, physical activity, connection and rangatahi participation.
The other contract of 20 hours per week is to provide Education Service Administration. This involves managing attendance records, case files and referrals to the Education Attendance Service. Providing administrative support to Kaiako and Case Managers as required and developing reports for the Ministry of Education and attending to any compliance needs they might have.
Mōu – About you
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience working in a Kaupapa Māori environment
- Demonstrate awareness of the cultural needs of rangatahi, kaumatua and the wider whānau
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Flexible and able to coordinate multiple activities
- Attentive to detail and can keep good records
- Provide accurate reports
- Uphold tikanga Māori and Whakatū Marae values in all mahi
- A clean driver license and ability to pass Police/OT vetting
