Aktive works to make Tāmaki Makaurau the world's most active city, focusing on tamariki and rangatahi who are underactive or missing out. Through partnerships with Iwi, marae, Māori Regional Sport Organisations, kura, and community groups, we aim to increase sport and physical activity opportunities for Māori.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

This role leads our Māori Participation plan and oversees a small team. Reporting to the General Manager Active Communities, you will work closely with our Māori Partnerships Manager and across the Aktive whānau.

Your key focus areas:

  • Lead the delivery of Iwi of Origin and Te Mahepohepotanga, both signature events for Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau, as well as supporting other events and activations.
  • Foster partnerships with Māori Regional Sport Organisations as well as other key stakeholders, identifying and delivering on opportunities to advance Māori participation.
  • Lead sector engagement for the Tū Manawa Māori Activation Fund, ensuring high quality applications and providing advice to our Māori outcomes committee.
  • Influence and drive innovation both internally and externally with a relentless focus on increasing Māori participation in active recreation.

Ko wai koe | About you

You're tenacious, high energy and solution-focused, and have a genuine passion for the sport and recreation sector. In particular we will be looking for:

  • A track record successfully leading events in sport/recreation, education, Māori development or community sectors.
  • Proficiency in tikanga Māori and te reo, ideally with established networks in our rohe.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, a natural orientation towards collaboration.  
  • High personal organisation with process-driven thinking.
