Presbyterian Support Northern (PSN) is seeking an experienced and values-driven Cultural Advisor to support the embedding of te ao Māori, tikanga, and Māori development practice across our organisation. This role sits within Te Rōpū Whakaiti and reports to the Kaitohu Mātua (GM Māori). PSN works closely with senior service delivery leaders across social services, health, disability, and executive leadership to ensure PSN’s strategies, policies, and services are culturally responsive and deliver meaningful outcomes for whānau Māori.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

The Cultural Advisor provides expert advice, guidance, and leadership on Māori culture, values, and practices to General Managers and service delivery teams across PSN. The role supports the implementation of PSN’s Māori Development Strategy and assists services to align their practice with te ao Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action.

This is a senior advisory role that requires strong influencing capability, deep cultural expertise, and the ability to translate Māori worldviews into practical, service-oriented solutions within a large and complex organisation.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

We are seeking someone who brings:

  • A tertiary qualification at bachelor’s degree level in Mātauranga Māori.
  • Experience working in a similar cultural advisory role, including 5 years in a service delivery environment.
  • Fluency in te reo me ōna tikanga.
  • Experience supporting large, complex organisations to embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi into policy and practice.
  • Proven ability to build trust and influence at senior leadership level.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to translate cultural knowledge into practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex cultural concepts to non-Māori audiences.
  • A strong ethical compass and alignment with PSN’s values.
