Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Pou Ārahi – Principal Advisor: Te Ao Māori & Professional Development is central to the Taituarā journey to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Based in Wellington, this newly created role will lead the integration of Te Ao Māori principles across their organisation, ensuring cultural practices are embedded in processes and values. You’ll build strong, authentic relationships with Mana Whenua, iwi, hapū, and Māori organisations, acting as a connector between Taituarā and Māori across the local government ecosystem. You’ll also provide secretariat support to the Te Ao Māori Committee and guide its work programme, modelling partnership in all your mahi.
 
Alongside this, you’ll bring your expertise to our professional development offerings. You’ll ensure Te Ao Māori perspectives and Te Tiriti learning outcomes are woven through all programmes, from leadership courses to bespoke initiatives for kaimahi Māori. Your insights will help shape sector capability, supporting councils and leaders to confidently apply Te Tiriti principles and good practice.
 
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Understanding & application of tikanga Māori, Mātauranga Māori & Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Conversational or fluent in te reo Māori
  • Experience in the L&D sector including involvement in designing, developing and delivering learning and development programmes
  • Experience working with and/or for Mana Whenua, iwi, or Māori organisations
  • Political astuteness in navigating iwi and local government relationships
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and learning design frameworks & familiarity with blended learning
