Next Generation Critical Communications (NGCC) is at the forefront of enhancing New Zealand’s emergency services and public safety sector through modern, secure, and integrated critical communications technologies. Established in 2020, NGCC is uniquely focussed on delivering shared infrastructure and communication services supporting the safety and operational capability of our emergency responders.
Their flagship programme, the $1.4 billion Public Safety Network (Te Kupenga Marutau), is delivering cutting-edge digital cellular services now being used by 25,000 emergency services staff and a new 500-site Land Mobile Radio network—one of the Government’s largest strategic infrastructure initiatives. NGCC is actioning an exciting remit to evolve, including to onboard new public safety sector customers from July 2026, and lead the development of future critical communications sector solutions, ultimately benefitting New Zealanders’ safety and wellbeing.
NGCC is seeking a commercially astute Principal Communications and Marketing Advisor for a fixed-term role until 30 September 2026 with the vision of an extension beyond this. Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Lead, this position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to both business-as-usual activities and significant organisational change.
You will play a key role in promoting NGCC’s Public Safety Network and other operating services while supporting the delivery of major projects like the Land Mobile Radio network. Additionally, you will help raise awareness of NGCC’s evolving remit, onboard new customers to PSN Cellular Services, and support organisational change initiatives.
This fast-paced environment requires agility, collaboration, and a proactive approach to communications, marketing and engagement. Success in this role will help build NGCC’s reputation as a trusted leader in critical communications while ensuring alignment with stakeholders, vendors, and customers.
Day to day duties include:
We are seeking candidates who bring expertise in communications and marketing alongside adaptability and resilience with a focus on customer centricity.
- Develop and executing plans for organisational change, product/service marketing, and internal/external communications.
- Identify communication risks and implement strategies to protect NGCC’s reputation.
- Foster alignment between customers, vendors, and stakeholders through effective communication strategies.
- Building relationships with stakeholders with cross agencies, customers, ministers offices and in collaboration with NGCC leadership.
- Lead campaigns for onboarding new customers and supporting PR efforts to enhance NGCC’s brand reputation.
- Support the development of the NGCC’s website in preparation for independence.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in communications, journalism, PR or marketing within corporate, commercial, technology or government sectors.
- Strong writing skills for press releases, media responses, corporate materials, and marketing content.
- Knowledge of brand management and reputation risk mitigation strategies.
- Experience with social media platforms and digital content creation.
- Proven ability to manage external agencies effectively within budget constraints.
- Familiarity with working in vendor-partner models (advantageous).
