Are you passionate about shaping the future of legislation in Aotearoa? Do you thrive on leading projects that make a real difference for government and society? At the Parliamentary Counsel Office (PCO), we’re looking for a Project Delivery Lead (Legislation) to drive strategic and operational initiatives that improve the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of legislative delivery. This is your chance to work at the heart of government and influence how laws are developed and made.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, coordinate, and contribute to delivery-focused projects - both digital and non-digital - such as AI-enabled drafting tools, bilingual drafting systems, and legislative risk recording and management systems.
  • Provide strategic and operational advice to senior leaders, helping shape informed decisions.
  • Obtain input from subject matter experts and foster collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Support capability development and planning within the Drafting Group.
  • Represent the Drafting Group in cross-functional projects and forums.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong project management skills and experience delivering and contributing to complex work programmes in a legal, policy, or legislative environment.
  • A deep understanding of the New Zealand legislative process and an ability to take a whole-of-system approach.
  • Excellent relationship management and influencing skills, including with senior executives and subject matter experts.
  • Proven ability to manage, progress, and deliver multiple priorities, remain adaptable, and work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Tertiary qualification (preferably in law or public policy) and project management training (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile) would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori is highly valued; bilingual proficiency is a bonus.

Why join us?

At PCO, we value people and teamwork. You’ll join a collaborative environment committed to innovation, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. This role offers the chance to contribute to projects that will shape the way in which legislation is developed and made for generations to come.
