Mō te tūranga | About the Role

  • Based in Whakatāne.
  • Lead a whānau-centred, trauma-informed service that strengthens resilience and enhances safety across the community.
  • Full operational oversight, across curriculum, compliance, people, budgets, enrolments, and H&S.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

Te Tohu o te Ora o Ngāti Awa is seeking a Service Manager to lead Whānau Resilience Team.

The purpose of the role is to lead and enable the integration of services under whānau resilience, while coordinating and contributing to the day-to-day operation, including planning, organising, directing, and monitoring activities across the service.  It also involves managing the achievement of key performance and outcomes required for all services within Whānau Resilience. 

This role requires a calm, mature, people-focused leader who can support a dedicated team, strengthen service quality, and uphold mana-enhancing practice. If you have a care and protection background, experience working in complex whānau environments, and a genuine commitment to safety and wellbeing, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day.

While experience in leadership, coordination, or supervision is desirable (around 2 years), we welcome a wide pool of candidates and encourage you to apply if you have the heart, grounding, and capability for this mahi.

Ngā kawenga | Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Lead, support, and mentor practitioners in safe and effective whānau-centred practice.
  • Oversee day-to-day service delivery, ensuring high-quality and culturally aligned responses.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner agencies and community networks.
  • Support practitioners with risk assessment, safety planning, and case direction.
  • Ensure reporting, documentation, and service processes meet contractual, legislative, and organisational expectations.
  • Champion kaupapa Māori principles, whānau-centred practice, and trauma-informed approaches across the service.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related Social Services discipline. 
  • Full professional registration with the Social Workers. 
  • A grounded, mature nature, and is able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Approachable, supportive, and skilled at building trust with both staff and whānau.
  • Experience in care and protection, family harm, or similar social service environments.
  • A passion about uplifting others and strengthening practice.
  • Confidence working within kaupapa Māori frameworks and committed to whānau-led solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, someone who can maintain strong relationships across agencies.
