About the Role
We are seeking a pragmatic and adaptable Risk Assurance Manager to join our team due to an internal promotion. Reporting to the Risk Assurance & Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in embedding best-practice risk management across Aurora Energy while ensuring alignment with operational needs and strategic priorities.
This is a unique opportunity to influence senior leadership, facilitate risk workshops across business units, and ensure that risk management is relatable, understood, and owned by all levels of the organisation. You’ll also oversee critical frameworks such as Business Continuity and Emergency Response, ensuring they remain robust and effective.

Strategic Impact: Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to embed risk management practices that align with Aurora’s strategic goals.
Leadership Influence: Facilitate workshops, provide expert advice, and communicate risk concepts in a way that drives clarity, confidence, and informed decision-making across all levels of the business.
Framework Development: Assess and enhance Aurora’s control assurance framework to ensure it meets both operational needs and strategic priorities.
Crisis Preparedness: Oversee enterprise-wide Business Continuity and Emergency Response Frameworks, including simulations, briefings, and recovery planning initiatives.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- Experience as a risk practitioner or within a broader legal/regulatory role (electricity sector experience is advantageous but not essential).
- A pragmatic approach to applying risk management principles in complex environments.
- Confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, including senior leaders.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to comprehend technical information, translate risk concepts clearly, facilitate workshops and articulate risk insights to drive informed decisions .
- A proactive mindset focused on embedding best practices while driving continuous improvement.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on Aurora Energy’s operations while contributing to its long-term resilience and success. With offices in Dunedin and Cromwell, this role can be based in either location with occasional travel required between offices. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate.
