Work at the interface of mātauranga Māori, education, and museum practice - where taonga, stories and people are at the heart of lifelong learning. Join us in shaping rich, immersive learning experiences that engage ākonga, kaiako and whānau across both Māori and English-medium education settings.
As Learning Specialist Kaupapa Māori, you will be part of Te Papa's Learning Team, within the Audience and Insight Directorate, which leads the way in connecting people with taonga and stories in meaningful, memorable and measurable ways.
You'll collaborate with a team of educators, curators, iwi partnerships, and education sector partners to develop and deliver innovative, participatory learning experiences that reflect and promote Te Papa's bicultural foundation.
In this role, you will:
- lead the development and delivery of learning experiences for ākonga and their whānau in Māori-medium settings from kōhanga reo to wharekura and wānanga
- collaborate across the team to enrich museum learning experiences with kaupapa Māori values, pedagogies and practices
- use your skills in digital and object-based learning to bring Te Papa's taonga and stories to life for all learners
- actively participate in and contribute to professional learning opportunities for kaiako capability building internally and in relation to the teaching sector.
We're looking for the following:
- A fluent Te Reo Māori speaker with a strong foundation in tikanga Māori
- Experience engaging in Māori medium settings, ideally having had designed and delivered learning programmes in kura Māori, kura ā iwi, or other kaupapa Māori educational contexts
- A collaborative team member with excellent facilitation and communication skills, and a passion for transforming learning through the power of museums and taonga

There are two positions available, both are fixed-term roles ending in June 2026, and are based in Wellington. These are full-time roles, you will be working 40 hours Monday to Friday, with some flexibility around working arrangements.
Salary band: $79,299 to $94,167 offers will be made to reflect the skills and experience offered by the candidates
