Te Rūnanga o Waihao is hiring - and we're calling in the right people to help us shape the future.

We're on a mission - and we need game-changer

At Te Rūnanga o Waihao, we're boldly reimagining how we serve our people and our place. Following a purposeful review of our governance and operations, we're rebuilding with intention - strengthening our foundations so that mana whenua leadership, kaupapa Māori values, and intergenerational wellbeing are at the heart of all we do.

We are setting a new course. One grounded in rakatirataka, sustained by tikanga, and powered by whakapapa. We are enabling place-based strategies and long-term solutions that uplift our rūnanga, hapū and whānau - now and into the future.

We are now seeking three exceptional individuals to join our small but mighty team, including the role of Kaiwhakarite. The Kaiwhakarite is the glue of our organisation - a high-performing administrator who keeps things humming across governance, finance, communications, and office operations. You'll support the Manahautū and provide backbone support to our Boards, with high levels of initiative, integrity, and capability. Based full-time in Waimate, this is a rewarding role for someone who loves systems, problem-solving and enabling others to shine.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Values-led and outcomes-driven
  • Has strong administration skills and is savvy with Microsoft and Xerox or other accounting software
  • Experienced in preparing board papers, account management, financial transactions and coordination support with events and marae bookings
  • Support the Manahautū through emails and correspondence with board members, managing travel, hui and communications
  • Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Support the daily operations of the organisation, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
  • Champion mana whenua leadership and Māori aspirations
  • Deliver on what they say - with integrity and care
  • Have experience building relationships, partnerships, and trust
  • Are inspired by legacy, whenua, and kaupapa

Why Waihao?

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a grounded, whānau-driven organisation at a transformative moment. We're not just hiring - we're investing in people who will help carry our kaupapa forward for generations to come.
