Te Rūnanga o Waihao is hiring - and we're calling in the right people to help us shape the future.

We're on a mission - and we need game-changer

At Te Rūnanga o Waihao, we're boldly reimagining how we serve our people and our place. Following a purposeful review of our governance and operations, we're rebuilding with intention - strengthening our foundations so that mana whenua leadership, kaupapa Māori values, and intergenerational wellbeing are at the heart of all we do.

We are setting a new course. One grounded in rakatirataka, sustained by tikanga, and powered by whakapapa. We are enabling place-based strategies and long-term solutions that uplift our rūnanga, hapū and whānau - now and into the future.

We are now seeking three exceptional individuals to join our small but mighty team, including the role of Kairuruku Marae. Our marae is our beating heart. As Kairuruku, you will coordinate all aspects of marae bookings, maintenance, and events - ensuring the doors are open, the cups are warm, and the tikanga is upheld. You'll have strong relationship skills, a hands-on approach, and the ability to lead kaimahi and whānau volunteers with care and clarity.

This part-time, Waimate-based role is perfect for someone who loves working behind the scenes to bring manaaki to life.  The role is currently based on 10 guaranteed hours per week, with any additional hours agreed between us.  However, for the right applicant that demonstrates the skills we are looking for in our Kairuruku Marae, there is room for some flexibility to increase the guaranteed hours of work - we are open to kōrero about this with applicants.

Who we're looking for:

  • Someone with experience in coordinating hui, events and managing manaaki for all visitors to the marae
  • Support the daily operations of the organisation, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
  • Coordinate and implement a maintenance plan for the Rūnanga
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with whānau and external stakeholders
  • High level of fluency with MS Office suite of products and MS Booking Software
  • Ensuring facilities are regularly maintained
  • Champion mana whenua leadership and Māori aspirations
  • Deliver on what they say - with integrity and care
  • Values-led and outcomes-driven
  • Have experience building relationships, partnerships, and trust
  • Are inspired by legacy, whenua, and kaupapa

Why Waihao?

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a grounded, whānau-driven organisation at a transformative moment. We're not just hiring - we're investing in people who will help carry our kaupapa forward for generations to come.
