Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Hato Hone St John is committed to improving Māori health equity, and this pivotal leadership role will be instrumental in turning ambition into meaningful action. With strong backing from the Board and executive team, the Deputy Chief Executive (DCE) will lead the charge in refreshing strategy, strengthening iwi relationships, and fostering cultural competence across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Strategic Refresh – Reinvigorate the Aka strategy, ensuring a clear and actionable execution plan.
- Executive & Board Engagement – Partner with the Chief Executive, Executive Leadership Team and Tahuhu Māori committee to deepen iwi relationships and enhance leadership capability in te ao Māori.
- Team support – Lead, advise and support the Head of Māori Health and Equity and the Kāhui Mauaka team which includes Māori advisors across ambulance and community services.
- Delivery – co-design, lead and support programmes and initiatives that make a measurable difference for health equity.
Ko wai koe| About you
This role requires a visionary leader with deep cultural competence in te ao Māori, including a high level of te reo Māori. The successful candidate will also have:
- Executive leadership experience, ideally within large organisations.
- A background in health and/or social services, with a strong understanding of equity challenges.
- Proven ability to engage authentically, build trust, and foster confidence across all levels.
- A results-driven approach—credibility here will come from delivery, not just dialogue.
