The Survivor Experiences Service provides a forum in which Survivors of abuse in state and faith-based care can share their experiences of abuse in a trauma-informed and culturally responsive setting to facilitate healing. It also provides support to Survivors to locate their personal records from care agencies.
The service has operated since July 2023 and in Phase 2, from 1 July 2023, the focus is on core services being maintained and enabling enduring relationships with Māori, Pacific, Disabled, and Deaf communities of Survivors. This means working more closely with local agencies with trusted connections to Survivor communities. It means listening and responding to what they say about how best to meet Survivor needs.
- Support to hear the experiences of Survivors through confidential and private face-to-face meetings, group meetings and other forum which Survivors may request, for example, via Zoom.
- Support Kaitakawaenga to conduct Private Sessions with Survivors by attending, setting up and facilitating sessions throughout the motu as required, including the collection of Survivor data
- Ensure provision of wellbeing support to Survivors before, during and after their Private Session.
- Preparation of documentation, detailed note-taking and other administration tasks, including keeping case management system updated
- Some wellbeing support to Survivors before, during and after their Private Session
Ability to work away from home, across New Zealand on a regular basis.
Full Drivers License required.

The Partnerships and Commissions branch of DIA is responsible for a diverse portfolio of national institutions, commissions, Executive and community-based services. The branch oversees and supports the National Library and Archives New Zealand, Hāpai Hapori – Community Operations, and Ministerial Services who provide a range of services to the Prime Minister and the Executive. The branch oversees various commissions including royal commissions, ministerial inquiries and those established through legislation (Local Government Commission, Gambling Commission).
