We are seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Commissioning Advisor for our Kōanga Kai kaupapa.  This role will sit in our Wai Ora (Commissioning) team and will support whānau who are building healthy and sustainable kai production practices, influenced by the traditions and mātauranga of our tīpuna.

Job Description

Ko tā mātou mahi - Our role

Kōanga Kai is an initiative that encourages whānau rangatiratanga by building healthy and sustainable kai production practices, influenced by the traditions and mātauranga of our tīpuna. We support entities throughout Te Waipounamu to deliver Kōanga Kai kaupapa within their communities. By providing physical resources and coaching, whānau are empowered to participate in communal gardens or create māra kai in their homes, and engage in planting, hunting, gathering, foraging, producing, preserving and preparing kai.

Kōanga Kai is about self-determination and sustainability – kai production that puts whānau in charge of creating healthy lifestyles, and that is environmentally and economically sustainable.

We are looking for a Commissioning Advisor to lead this kaupapa with heart and passion and a desire to get your hands dirty.

The Commissioning Advisor for Kōanga Kai is responsible for facilitating the commissioning pipeline and supporting whānau throughout Te Waipounamu to deliver Kōanga Kai, as well as growing the Kōanga Kai kaupapa by identifying new funding opportunities.

As a trusted advisor you will contribute to the efficient and effective management of contracts, by proactively managing both contracts and relationships.  You will build and maintain strong relationships with whānau.  You will be known on the ground in the community, supporting whānau to achieve their aspirations, identify areas of upskilling and resource whānau to develop their capability.

Report writing is also essential to ensure the ongoing development of this kaupapa.  The Commissioning Advisor for Kōanga Kai is responsible for ensuring that reports are delivered to agreed timeframes and that they are accurate and reflect whānau voice.

You will provide support along the commissioning pipeline, as the face of Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu.  Your sound relationship management, engagement skills, report writing, and effective communication skills will see you succeed in this role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the commissioning team with planning of each commissioning round, process, receipt, collation, and preparation for the assessment panel.
  • Engage with approved entities to negotiate and manage contracts.
  • Actively track contract scope, budgets and cycles that may directly impact on contracting outcomes.
  • Assess, mitigate, resolve and manage problems, risks and/or issues associated with the contract arrangements.
  • Diligent reporting writing.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with whānau, hapū, iwi, partners, communities, and networks.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge and experience of horticulture or agriculture.
  • Heart and passion for this kaupapa.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with whānau, partners, communities, and networks.
  • Sound experience in dealing with the management of investment funding, commissioning, and community-based programmes.
  • Proven experience working with Māori and within a kaupapa Māori environment.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Whānau Ora approach.
  • Business competency, business experience, knowledge, and skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of digital capability across platforms and technologies, in particular SharePoint, CRM, Teams, Microsoft Office 365 suite etc.
  • Diligent monitoring and report writing skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional organisational, planning and process mapping skills.
  • Be a strategic thinker and planner.
  • Established community relationships, credibility with the greater Māori community is desired.
  • Knowledge of or a willingness to learn te reo and tikanga necessary to discharge the function of the role.
  • Willingness to engage with whānau, hāpu and iwi networks throughout Aotearoa.
  • A current full driver’s licence.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field preferred but not essential.

Additionally, this role will require someone with excellent interpersonal skills, coupled with a high level of professionalism and capability to support the initiatives of this significant, whānau focused organisation.

A working understanding of kaupapa Māori will be essential in being able to provide strategic support to the Te Pūtahitanga team and key stakeholders.
